This is a distinction that go...Great post, Dorothy. This is a distinction that good students know about. I also think that there are different reading styles for reading to learn. Personally, I read something quickly first, and then go back and reread the more difficult part. At the college level, a lot of content authors assume a certain amount of prior knowledge. If you don't have it, you are lost no matter how carefully you study.
